Privacy Policy

Effective date: 31 October 2026 · App: Luma

Luma is an illustrated reading app. This policy explains what stays on your device, what is processed when you download stories, and how to contact us. It applies to the Android app and our public story-download service.

Your reading data stays in the app

Luma stores your reading position, bookmarks, saved books, completed books, interactive-story choices, discovered clues, endings, and reading or narration settings in the app's local storage. Downloaded story text and artwork are also stored locally for offline reading. We do not send these reading records or choices to a Luma account or analytics service. This release has no sign-in, cloud-sync account, advertising or in-app purchases.

Downloading books

The app connects over HTTPS to Amazon Web Services (AWS), using Amazon CloudFront and Amazon S3, to check the catalogue and download stories, illustrations and public policy pages. Like any internet connection, these requests involve your IP address and technical connection information. They identify the files being requested and may therefore indicate the title being downloaded. We use this processing to deliver the requested content, not to build a reading profile or target advertising.

We have not enabled CloudFront standard access logs or S3 server access logs for this content service. AWS may process technical or security information under its own service terms and privacy practices. See AWS Privacy Notice. If request logging or other data practices change, we will update this policy and the applicable Play Console declarations.

Offline narration and sound

Interactive-story narration uses an installed Android text-to-speech engine with an available offline English voice. The app filters out voices that require a network connection. Story text is passed to that on-device engine to speak aloud. Luma does not record your voice, request microphone access, or send narration text to a Luma speech server. Voice installation and the operating system's text-to-speech service are managed by your device and its provider. Ambient sound is generated on the device.

Permissions and services

The app uses internet access to download content. It does not request location, contacts, camera, microphone, phone, SMS or broad file-storage permissions. We do not include advertising, behavioral analytics or social-tracking SDKs. We do not sell your personal information.

Android backup and device transfer

Android may back up or transfer app data according to your device settings and operating-system behavior. Those system services are controlled by Android and your selected backup provider, rather than a Luma account. Check your device's backup settings if you do not want app data included. A restored or transferred download may need downloading again.

Support messages

If you choose to email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in the message. We use it to answer your request and resolve the issue. Please do not include passwords or sensitive personal information. Support correspondence is retained while your request is being handled and for up to 12 months after the last response, unless you ask us to delete it sooner or a longer period is required to meet a legal obligation.

Retention and deletion

Your local reading records remain until you clear Luma's app storage or uninstall it. Removing a download through Profile → Offline library removes that downloaded content while preserving your reading progress and choices. To remove all local records, use Android Settings → Apps → Luma → Storage → Clear storage. That action cannot be undone unless you have an applicable system backup. Manage any Android backups through your device or backup provider.

Luma does not maintain a server-side reading account to delete. For questions about support correspondence or information you sent us, email luma.for.support@gmail.com. We will respond to privacy requests within 30 days, subject to applicable requirements. AWS operational records, if any, are governed by its applicable service retention practices; we do not promise a fixed retention period for records outside our control.

Security and international processing

Story downloads use HTTPS and their integrity is checked before they are marked available offline. Our content origin is stored in AWS's Sydney region and CloudFront delivers content through distributed edge locations, so technical request information may be processed outside your country. Local reading data relies on Android's app-storage protections; it is not a substitute for securing your phone. No system can guarantee absolute security.

Audience

Luma contains fiction in several genres, including horror, mystery and romance, with suspense and mature emotional themes. Store age ratings and story content notes help you decide what is suitable. We do not knowingly request or collect children's personal information through an account or submission form. If you believe a child has sent personal information to our support contact, contact us so we can address it.

Changes and contact

We will update this page when our practices change and show the new effective date. Material changes will also be reflected in the app or its release information where appropriate.
